Rock ‘N Roll is a perfect example of a man who doesn't care. A veteran of many wars, a surfer's life sacrificed for Uncle Sam, and an itchy finger to restart his old rock band means Rock ‘N Roll just doesn't care what his superiors say. He doesn't report for any meetings other than mission briefs and he rarely follows orders on the battlefield. He says he just "follows his gun" when in battle and he always comes through. Any other soldier in any other branch of the armed forces would be punished for not following orders until he finally worked his way to dishonorable discharge but, Rock ‘N Roll is good at what he does.

General Hawk knows there is no reasoning with Rock ‘N Roll. A discharge would just mean a very valuable heavy gunner would become an old beach bum playing guitar around a campfire living out of a Volkswagen Microbus. So Hawk put him in the only unit he knew would keep anyone higher than himself from questioning Rock ‘N Roll's actions.

Sgt. Slaughter knew what he was getting when he received Rock ‘N Roll into his unit and he welcomed it. If you are going to make it as a Marauder then you have to have a certain amount of rebel in you. Going against the rules, sticking it to the man, its all part of the guerilla warfare the Marauders take part in. And Rock ‘N Roll really doesn't care who he goes into battle with, just so he gets to let his "Sweet Layla" play the lead.

Rock ‘N Roll really fits in well with this merry band of misfits and Hawk doesn't have any worries about him anymore. Rock ‘N Roll may enjoy the insanely loud firing of "Sweet Layla" but it truly is music to the Marauders' ears when they hear Rock ‘N Roll laying down the cover fire.
